Sports medicine also called medicine of physical activity is an interdisciplinary branch of medical knowledge which uses achievements of anthropology, biology, biochemistry, physiology, theory of sports training and clinical disciplines like: orthopedics, traumatology, pediatrics, internal medicine and cardiology. The basic aim of sports medicine is health protection of people who participate in sports activities ranging from physical education to competitive sport, from recreation to health training, from prevention of diseases to their treatment and rehabilitation.
Sports medicine attends to physically active humans, both healthy and diseased in every period of their lives. In contrast to other medical disciplines, sports medicine includes all the physiological and pathological processes which occur in every system or organ of the human body under the influence of physical activity or the lack of such activity.
